Police prevent Vox MP José María Figaredo from confronting anti-racist protesters in Asturias

“No human being is illegal” or “racists leave the mining basin”, were the phrases chanted by more than 200 people, in Sotrondio, a small town in the mining basin of Nalón in Asturias, located in the municipality of San Martín. of King Aurelius. This is how they awaited the Vox deputy of the Congress of Deputies, José María Fidalgo, who had announced a visit, with his colleagues from the Asturian Parliament, to continue spreading the message of the ultra formation against the reception of migrants in the country. Spanish Autonomous Communities.

This is why this Thursday’s meeting has been set at the Temporary Reception Centre of the San José school, where the new Permanent Reception Centre will be built, as announced by the Minister of Inclusion, Elma Saiz, during her last visit to Asturias.

Last Sunday, precisely, on the social networks of the ideological sphere of Vox, the rumor began to spread that the Reception Center planned in Sotrondio would house 57,000 migrants. An absolutely disproportionate figure that they quickly circulated, as one more of their fake newsknowing that they were using an error in the wording of one of the news items from Asturian Public Television (TPA), broadcast on September 5 and corrected the same day by the regional television itself.

This is the second time that the ultra formation visits San Martín del Rey Aurelio, and also a year ago they found the same citizen response, the absolute rejection of the racist and xenophobic speeches of Vox, that we also had in elDiario.es Asturias.

Among the demonstrators were residents from all over the Nalón Valley, representatives of various humanitarian associations in the area, deputies from the left bench of the General Assembly of the Principality and the Municipal Corporation of San Martín del Rey Aurelio al complete, in which Vox did not manage to enter, but where the PP is represented, in a clear message of unity in favor of the Reception Center.

A cordon of the National Police separated the demonstrators from the four ultra-deputies who, led by Figaredo, returned to the mining basin to say that “for those here there is never money, but to build immigration centers there is”, while accusing the city council of San Martín del Rey Aurelio of trying to “sabotage the freedom of expression of the third political force in Asturias and Spain”.

At the end of his statements, which lasted no more than five minutes, and while waving towards the protesters who were shouting “out, out”, José María Fidalgo began to walk towards the people gathered, trying to face them. His intention was thwarted by the intervention of the National Police officers, who asked him to leave.

The Permanent Reception Center is a project of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, whose work will begin next year and will have around 200 places to accommodate temporary international receptions. For the construction of this center, the ministry will invest nine million euros.

The old San José de Sotrondio school reopened its doors, eventually, as a temporary reception center for migrants in October 2023, to help respond to the migration crisis that the country is going through. Since then, around 300 people have passed through its facilities, with which the neighbors have a perfect coexistence, as stated today by the representatives of the different neighborhood associations in the area.
