Talks about a political successor to the country’s Supreme Leader, 85-year-old Seyyed Ali Khamenei, have resurfaced in Iran. But unlike previous cases, this time it was Khamenei himself who brought up the issue, indicating the seriousness of the issue related to the change of leadership in the country. Thus, shortly after Donald Trump’s victory in the United States presidential elections was announced, Khamenei met with the members of the Council of Experts, made up of 88 clerics, the body that elects the supreme leader of Iran. Two-thirds of his half-hour speech at that meeting was devoted to the issue of determining the country’s future supreme leader.
Oku.AzAccording to information from “Azad Iran”, this is mentioned in a new argument published on the “YouTube” channel.
It is reported that with this unprecedented speech, it became clear that Khamenei intends to prepare society, first of all, the ruling political elite for his absence. At the same time, he gave a clear message to Council members to think now about the identity of the future supreme leader and stressed the importance of electing a new leader without delay and quickly.
It is no coincidence that some Iranian analysts called Khamenei’s speech a “farewell sermon.” Hujjat-ul-Islam Muhammad Baghir Heydari Kashani, who participated in the meeting, later said that during Khamenei’s speech, some members of the Council cried uncontrollably, imagining that the shadow of the supreme leader would be missing over their heads. But of course, Council members should not shed tears over Khamenei’s speech, but rather elect his intended candidate for the leadership position. Everyone knows that this candidate is Mujtaba Khamenei, his son, whom he has been preparing for this position for years. For this reason, both local and foreign media interpret and analyze the speech of the Supreme Leader of Iran in this context.
Is Khamenei leaving and his son replacing him?
