Judge Juan Carlos Peinado issued an order in which he opened an investigation into the assets of Begoña Gómez: he requested both a list of the current accounts she owns as well as the certificate of her marriage to Pedro Sánchez. The magistrate, who has been investigating the wife of the President of the Government for months, sent these requests for information respectively to the Judicial Neutral Point and to the Civil Registry of Madrid.
The decision came a day after collecting statements from several witnesses, including Juan José Güemes, former advisor to the Madrid government of Esperanza Aguirre and director of the Business Institute for which Begoña Gómez works at the Africa Center. Midway through his statement, the judge realized that Güemes’ statement was directly contradicted by the testimony of another IE worker and announced that he would be considered under investigation.
In the same judgment that summons Güemes to testify again, although now as an accused, on November 18 under the name Begoña Gómez, the judge asks for more information. On the one hand, “the numbering of the current accounts in which Begoña Gómez appears as owner, a request that she addresses to the Judicial Neutral Point. On the other hand, she requests from the civil registry “a literal marriage certificate with its marginal annotations” concerning her marriage to Pedro Sánchez.
