The Lloseta green hydrogen plant is inaugurated two and a half years after its inauguration by the former socialist president of the government, Francine Armengol, accompanied, among others, by the Vice-President and Minister of Ecological Transition, Teresa Ribera.

“This is very important news for the Balearic Islands, because this plant represents a symbol of betting on green hydrogen as a fundamental clean energy to contribute to the energy transition, the decarbonization of the islands and the fight against climate change,” he said after visiting the facilities with the Minister of Commerce, Employment and Energy, Alejandro Saenz from San Pedro.
The leader of the regional executive also highlighted the importance of the project at national and international level and the opportunity it represents for the reindustrialization of the archipelago and as a pole of innovation and attraction of green investments.
For Prohens, the production of green hydrogenplaces the Islands at the forefront of innovation and the energy transition thanks to the possibility of producing up to 300 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, with a reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by more than 21,000 tonnes per year.
In recent months, work has continued at the plant to solve some problems which prevented its operation. Recently, the company announced that after several tests, these problems had been resolved.
The plant was inaugurated with great fanfare by the Left Pact in March 2022 and began generating green hydrogen molecules on an industrial scale after An incident related to the electrolyser has been resolved, which had paralyzed its production from the beginning.
The Under-Secretary of State for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge also took part in the visit, Miguel Gonzalez, and the mayor of Lloseta, Angelina Perezas well as representatives from IDAE, Acciona Energía, Redexis and Cemex.
Power to Green Hydrogen Majorca, funded by the European Union with support from the European Commission body Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Venture (FCH JU), This is a pioneering project which aims to develop an ecosystem based on green hydrogen.

Unlike other plants, the Lloseta plant aims to supply diversified consumption: distribution in the natural gas network, electrical and thermal consumption of buildings, energy supply to ports and mobility uses.
Green hydrogen will therefore have multiple applications on the island, such as fuel supply for bus fleets and fuel cell vehicles via a filling station or hydrogen station, the production of heat and electricity for commercial and public buildings or the provision of auxiliary energy to ferries and port operations.
In addition, part of this green hydrogen will be injected into gas infrastructures that the Redexis company has deployed in Mallorca.
First national hydrogen gas pipeline
On the other hand, the President of the Government assured that the Autonomous Executive is not aware of any macroproject green hydrogen in Llucmajor from a company in the United Arab Emirates.
Asked by the media, he insisted that the government has not received any formal communication regarding the intentions of a company to build a macro-factory in Llucmajor to produce more than 300 tonnes of green hydrogen per day.
Later, the President attended the Commissioning of the first national hydrogen gas pipeline which will transport green hydrogen to inject it into the natural gas network. This infrastructure, built by Redexis, is necessary for ctransport the hydrogen produced at the Lloseta plant to the gas network.
The hydrogen pipeline will allow the blend of green hydrogen and natural gas to reach more than 115,000 homes and 2,000 tertiary and industrial consumers on the Islands, providing them with cleaner and more sustainable energy.
