The maritime rescue ship Salvamar Acrux docked this Tuesday at 1:20 p.m. at the La Restinga dock, in El Hierro, with 58 people rescued from a boat in the waters near the island. One of the rescued people was transferred to the Virgen de los Reyes island hospital to receive emergency medical treatment.
The canoe, seen 15 miles from the coast, was initially spotted by the Salvamar Adhara, which was in a mission to rescue another cayuco 60 miles south of El Hierro. After indicating the location, the Salvamar Acrux was dispatched to carry out the rescue.
The rescued group, made up of 58 people, including four women, He was treated in the port of La Restinga by an emergency system that included the Red Cross Immediate Emergency Response Team (ERIE), the Canary Islands Emergency Service, port surveillance , the Civil Guard and the National Police. The people rescued come from several countries, including Mauritania, Gambia, Guinea-Conakry, Mali, Ivory Coast, Syria and Somalia. After receiving medical assistance, they were transferred to the Temporary Care Center for Foreigners (CATE) in the city of San Andrés, where they will be treated by the NGO “Orange Heart – Ebrima Sonko” and will remain in police custody until ‘to their transfer. to other resources outside the island.
