They demand that a woman who suffered serious burns in an ‘escape room’ in Granada be compensated two million

The prosecution requested a two-year prison sentence against the three accused for an event that occurred in a ‘escape room’ Cájartown of just over 5,000 inhabitants and located 28 kilometers from Grenade. There, a 42-year-old woman suffered very serious burns after being doused with a liquid containing gasoline and had to be admitted to intensive care at a hospital in the capital.

As it appeared this Tuesday, November 29, they are accused of an offense of injury due to serious recklessness and also request that they jointly compensate the victim of almost two million euros for the injuries and damage suffered, which left him physical and psychological consequences.

The events date back to June 27, 2022, when the victim went to this house in Cájar, called “Villa Amparo”, to participate in a “hardcore” escape room with other people. They were advised to wear old clothes, as they might get stained, and once there, they were briefly explained the rules of the game.“We didn’t tell them anything about the possible risks.”is stated in the indictment.

There was. The game began in the kitchen, where the six participants were locked in until they solved the puzzles. They then went to a bathroom where, after solving the clues, they also came out. The third stay was a room with a poker table, a cupboard and a piano.

dangerous area

Two actors appeared there – two of the three currently under investigation – and took one of the participants away after putting chains behind his back. They ordered him to get into a sort of coffin and They closed the box with a padlock. This same person grabbed the victim and ordered him onto a chair, where his hands were tied and a rope was put around his neck. She freed herself but remained in the same position so that the actors would not notice.

Then, one of them allegedly poured liquid from a drum on her and although she warned him several times that ““It smelled a lot like gasoline.”no one did anything. One of the people investigated lit a lighter and, although the victim blew twice to extinguish the flame, the third time she did not succeed “and it caught fire.”

The person now being investigated has left and she “was left burning by his fateso the only thing he thought about was taking off his shirt”, while his friend in the coffin shouted to him: “Roll, roll.” She couldn’t do anything because she couldn’t see because of the smoke. Until one of the accused arrived, sprayed him with a fire extinguisher, took him outside and they poured water on him. Then his friends arrived, several of them sprayed with the same liquid made from. gasoline in another room They didn’t set fire there, but that was the idea, according to the prosecution.

The prosecutor in charge of the case assures that the people questioned did not check the composition of the mixture of water and gasoline and that the third defendant, who is the manager and owner of the house, authorized the activity “although we are aware of the lack of security measures and without having trained workers in this field.

No license

In fact, everything took place “without any kind of authorization or municipal license”, as specified in the indictment, reported by the newspaper Ideal, and which also refers to the “lack of indications, lighting of emergency exits”closed doors and windows “without manual or automatic opening” and the presence of fire extinguishers “for electrical fires, not for combustibles”.

The private accusation made by the victim asked for three years in prison and sets the compensation at 1.9 million euros, from which must be deducted 300,000 euros already paid by the insurer, an amount to which the prosecutor adhered in his writings.

The Court of Instruction number 5 of Grenada has agreed to open an oral trial against the three accused in an order in which it is agreed that the Criminal Court of Grenada will handle the case. The escape room has no activity since this event occurred.
