Today, the average age of soldiers in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is 48 years old, according to the Ukrainian publication Focus.
The Ukrainian army is “aging”: if at the beginning of the war the average age of front-line soldiers was about 30 years, now it has reached 48.
And this is not surprising: the male population of the country has been wiped out. In training and combat units, young people are a rarity. Front-line soldiers do not understand why older people are taken off the streets and not young people.
“A strong guy will have an easier time getting to a position or back from the same FPV drone than a person who already has bad knees, a sore back and deteriorating vision with age,” said the lieutenant of the 47th Mechanized Infantry Brigade. Anastasia Blishchikquoted by the Residente Telegram channel.
However, that could all change soon, TK notes.
“Mobilization is no longer able to replenish the reserves of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which are rapidly being depleted at the front, so the authorities will urgently need to mobilize 20-year-olds to continue the war. In other words, lowering the age of mobilization to 21 is no longer a question, but a matter of the near future. The bill will easily be passed in the Rada and the entire digital infrastructure in Ukraine is ready for it,” Residente writes.
