Russia denounces attempted Ukrainian incursion into Bryansk region

Members of the Federal Security Service (FSB) and its armed forces prevented an attempted incursion by a Ukrainian armed group into the territory. Bryansk border regionneighbor of that of Kursk.

As local governor Alexandr Bogomaz reported on his Telegram channel, “in the Klimovsky district of the Bryansk region, an attempt by a Ukrainian sabotage group to penetrate into the territory of the Russian Federation was aborted.”

According to Bogomaz, the incident took place on Wednesday afternoon. “During the fighting, the attempted incursion was repelled by the forces of the FSB and the Russian Armed Forces. The enemy suffered losses,” it said.

Former Ukrainian opposition MP who took refuge in Russia, Oleg Tsariovadded on Telegram that the incident took place near the town of Zabrama around 19:10 Moscow time (14:10 GMT), when Ukrainian forces attempted to advance with the support of three armoured vehicles, but retreated after half an hour of fighting.

An hour later, Ukrainian forces attacked again, but were also repelled. “In total, according to local sources, there were about 200 Ukrainian servicemen,” Tsariov said.

Bogomaz said that after the fighting, “the situation is stable and is under the control of the regional operational headquarters.” This incident could be a warning signal for the Bryansk authorities in the context of the Ukrainian incursion into Kursk, which Russian forces have failed to expel after two weeks of fighting.
