Flora, the International Flower Festival, has just announced two of the activities that will take place during its next edition: the hasfloral carpet in homage to Julio Romero de Torreswhich will take place on October 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Plaza del Potro; and Roots of the Phonocenea sound installation that can be visited in the Jardins d’Orive on October 19 and 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Saturday) and from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (Sunday).

Both activities were presented as advance to whet your appetite before the official presentation of the program which will take place on September 30.

Provincial carpet in honor of Julio Romero de Torres

The floral carpet in homage to Julio Romero de Torres will undoubtedly be one of the most special activities of this edition, in which tradition and contemporaneity They will shake hands to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the famous Cordovan painter. As part of Flora, the Cultural Delegation of the City Council of Cordoba and the Association of Carpet Manufacturers Corpus Christi de Ponteareas will commemorate the anniversary on October 20 with the creation of a floral carpet, designed by the artist. Carlota Pereiro and inspired by the imagination of Julio Romero de Torres.

The activity will include the participation of DJ Ussuru Sound who, from 12:00 to 14:00, will animate the day while expert artisans work on an ephemeral floral creation in which the ancient art of the Galician city of Laying Areas will take on a more contemporary twist, adapting to a contemporary aesthetic. The interested public will also be able to see not only the final result, but also the entire process of creating the carpet – stripping, shaping, filling, etc. – from Sunday morning.

Roots of the Phonocene

Another of the flagship activities of the edition will be Racines du Fonocène (towards a dictionary of plant aphasias), a sound installation designed by Miguel Alvarez-Fernandez which will be activated in the gardens of the Huerto de Orive on October 19 and 20 to explore the curious relationship between what the plant and the linguistic from different angles.

Roots of the Phonocene is a proposal for active listening that questions language beyond the Anthropocene; an invitation to take a walk Orive Garden deepen the here and now while “disappearing” in a way. Activating listening will allow the audience to leave space and time so that other realities can manifest, from the names of different plant beings (flowers, plants, trees, etc.), in what will be aimmersive experience to connect with the nature of our time.
