The DANA which struck Valencia on October 29 caused more than 200 deaths and countless material damage, but it also served as a pretext to misinformants fill social media with hoaxes.
The latest “fake” to go viral is a hoax that assures that Valencia floods were not caused by climate change nor for any DANA, but because, it is said, the Forata dam was opened to let the water flow.
This news is false. Neither the Forata dam nor any of the other dams in Valencia were opened that day to cause flooding, and the flooding occurred because in some places more than 600 liters per square meter fell. Actually, The images used by the spreaders of lies correspond to the floods in India.
Another hoax suggests that a firefighter confronted Pedro Sánchez during a visit to Valencia’s work centers. This is false. No rescue professional has confronted the president and the photo they provide as “proof” corresponds to a fire in the Sierra de la Culebra de Zamora in 2022. The firefighters have already announced that they will take legal measures against the disseminators of this false news.
