Secret Service opens case against Musk over post about Biden and Harris – Bloomberg

The US Secret Service is investigating a post by American entrepreneur Elon Musk on the social network X for threats against US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Bloomberg reports.

We are talking about a post in which Musk calls it strange that no one has tried to kill President Joe Biden or Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Maybe Musk poked the bear one too many times. On Sunday, shortly after the second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, one user of the social media account DogeDesigner X wondered: “Why do they want to kill?” Donald Trump?” Musk responded to his 198 million followers: “And no one is even trying to kill Biden/Kamala,” he wrote, adding “???” to the end of his post. Musk later deleted the post after it was widely condemned and said it was a joke. But it has now been seen by tens of millions, including the Secret Service. – says the article.

The Secret Service is now investigating and trying to determine whether “the individual poses an immediate threat to one of its” defendants. Threatening the President or Vice President of the United States is a felony, punishable by a large fine or up to five years in prison.

It should be noted that FOIA Files sent requests to the Secret Service for documents and emails with a link to Musk’s post. The available records of Musk’s post were “compiled for law enforcement purposes” and will not be released because “disclosure of the information would interfere with law enforcement proceedings,” the service responded Wednesday.

On Monday, Musk attempted to justify his tweet and why he deleted it, Bloomberg reports.

“Well, one of the lessons I’ve learned is that if I say something to a group and they laugh, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be as funny as a post on X,” X wrote on that social network.

“It turns out jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is just plain text,” he added in another post.

Musk and his lawyer Alex Spiro did not respond to requests for comment on whether the Secret Service had contacted him about his post, the agency said.
