The capital’s roads occasionally collapse. A few days ago a newly paved road collapsed on Rustam Rustamov Street, Nizami district of Baku. Neighbors said that the aforementioned road was recently paved. The Azerbaijan State Highway Agency (AAYDA) said that the cause of the problem in the mentioned area is the excavation carried out some time ago by relevant organizations for the construction of communication lines.
As we mentioned in the first sentence, this is not the first traffic accident. About 10 days ago, the road collapsed in one of the central streets of the city. The incident took place near the “Icherisheher” metro station on Sheikh Shamil Street, Sabail region.
The drivers faced a similar incident in July. Thus, a part of the road on Jeyhun Hajibeyli Street, Nariman Narimanov District, has collapsed and traffic has become difficult.

But what is the reason for the recent rapid failure of the roads? Is it poor quality construction materials or errors in the work carried out? What are the main criteria for the construction and repair of roads?
Aslan Asadov, an expert on transport issues, who expressed his opinion on the matter, told Bizim.media that it is necessary to observe all rules when building roads on slopes:
“The streets in question are mainly roads built on the slopes of the city during the Soviet era. Buildings have been built around these streets, new sewage pipes have been built and various road pavement works have been carried out. This creates a additional problem.
The road infrastructure must take into account the reinforcement of the general soil bed, embankment and, if it is on a slope, at least on the right, the planting of trees in the areas where vehicles travel. Otherwise, the quality of that road infrastructure cannot be discussed. The main point here is that. Other arguments are second and third order arguments, not superior ones.”
