The next criminal trial against Elshan Huseynov, accused of attempted murder of the head of the “Mashadi Dadash” mosque, took place in Baku.
Oku.AzAccording to the information, the session chaired by the judge of the Baku Serious Crimes Court, Rasim Sadigov, continued with the testimony of the victims.
The victim Rasul Hasanli stated that he worked as a servant at the mosque and stated the following:
“When I was on duty, Elshan entered the mosque and asked me to meet Haji (Haji Ali Sharbatov) and open his door, and when I asked him why, he insisted, introducing himself as the ‘twelfth imam’. When I said that Haji “I didn’t have time at that moment, he stabbed me twice in the ear and under the chest, I saw the blood flowing. Afterwards, the people who were there notified the ambulance and the police.”
The victim stated that she complained to the accused and asked the court to appropriately punish the person who affected her health.
Subsequently, conditions were created for Elmira Ahmadova, one of the witnesses, to testify. The witness said he worked in a religious shop next to the mosque and said he saw Rasul near the mosque and at that time he was bleeding from his ear. He saw another person fleeing the mosque courtyard cursing.
Another witness, Dayanat Mehdiyev, said he saw drops of blood on the mosque door when he went to worship. Seeing Elshan Huseynov at the door, he said: “I am the last prophet” and asked Dayanat to leave immediately. Otherwise, he said, his head would hurt. The next court session is scheduled for December 10.
It should be noted that investigations carried out by the State Security Service determined that on December 30, 2023, Elshan Huseynov entered the “Mashadi Dadash” mosque in Nasimi district with a knife, with the intention of ending the service of Ali Sharbatov, who is the imam of the place and is considered a public figure, decided to assassinate him.
When Elshan Huseynov tried to enter Ali Sharbatov’s room, the mosque servant Rasul Hasanli stopped him. At that time, Elshan Huseynov inflicted multiple stab wounds on Rasul Hasanli to kill him on purpose. Elshan Huseynov could not enter Ali Sharbatov’s service room due to resistance from Rasul Hasanli. For this reason he could not fulfill his wish to assassinate Ali Sharbatov.
