The US Secret Service is reviewing a deleted post by Elon Musk on his social network X, in which, following another attempt on the life of former President Donald Trump, he expressed surprise that the same did not happen to current head of state Joe Biden and Vice President and US presidential candidate Kamala Harris, Bloomberg reports.
“The Secret Service is investigating Musk’s post.” – says the message.
As reported by the media, the actions of the Secret Service must be aimed at establishing whether the subject of the investigation represents a threat to the protected persons. Threatening the President or Vice President of the United States is a criminal offense and can result in a prison sentence of up to five years.
Musk deleted the post on the social network X and later that day called it a joke, although he supposedly did not mean to do so, but agreed when one of the users expressed the opinion that the businessman’s words were deliberately misinterpreted.
The attempted assassination of Trump took place on September 15 at his golf club in Florida. According to authorities, Secret Service agents opened fire on the intruder, who was hiding in the bushes. The man fled and tried to escape in a car, but was arrested. An AK-47 assault rifle with optical sights, two backpacks and a GoPro camera were found at the scene. The FBI joined the investigation.
