The head of the Bierzo Health Area pleads for a “facelift” of the hospital
The new director of the Bierzo Health Area appeals to the collaboration of the entire society to guarantee “social peace” and promote “a facelift” of the Ponferrada hospital. He aims to show this center as a friendly place and “that does not seem like professionals are going to war”, said the pulmonologist Juan Ortiz de Saracho, who today celebrates his fifth day in the position to which he was appointed after the resignation of his predecessor, Pilar Fernández Ampudia, in the midst of a “crisis” due to the lack of oncologists at the Bercian hospital.
With strong conviction, Ortiz de Saracho advocates “changing the image of this hospital, which has excellent professionals and staff at all levels, but it does not find sufficient extension of a good image abroad. In these conditions, warns the doctor, “no matter what incentives are offered to attract new specialists, no one will want to go to war,” he concluded. The manager ended by appealing to the feeling of pride “of our hospital. “We have put on the Sacyl jersey, we are proud, we want to be at the level we should be.”
To facilitate this “facelift”, the head is committed to starting by giving “more light” to the research, teaching and training offered. According to him, they could help attract doctors from outside. Regarding the specific situation of the oncology department, he stressed that the health situation is normalizing “little by little”.
