Time flies and memories are sometimes short. In a few months, it will be five years since the start of the pandemic. I have been a privileged witness to the enormous effort made to move the country forward. And also to decisions that, with what we know today, would surely be different (I am thinking in particular of the severe confinement of boys and girls, for which a different solution should surely have been imagined). Of course, there were mistakes. And of course, it was improvised, as everywhere, with the best will and all the energy put into the effort.
That is why I will never criticize certain decisions that, in the professional field, can only be explained in their context – always admitting criticism. As an economist, in this case, I would not have liked to see myself responsible for National Accounting during these months and those that followed. I have no doubt that the INE has put all the means, through its honesty and independence, into this task. And that others would not have done better.
