The epidemiological situation related to coronavirus in Azerbaijan is stable. The main strain found in the country is several subspecies of “Omicron”. The mutation of the virus, like its natural evolution, continues over the centuries.
These words were spoken by Tayyar Eyvazov, an infectious disease specialist at the Ministry of Health, in response to a question from Lent.az.
According to him, determining the prevalence level of a particular subtype by sequencing is currently of no practical importance in terms of fighting infection and planning anti-epidemic measures:
“These subtypes are accompanied by almost identical clinical signs and therefore it is not possible to identify the subtype. Although each of them differs from the other in terms of infection rate, none of them causes severe disease in immunocompetent individuals. Vaccines used by various scientists against coronaviruses also have certain properties against emerging strains, they are likely to be effective.”
