Chinese aircraft carrier’s passage off Japan is routine maneuver: Chinese Defense Ministry

There is nothing unusual about the passage of the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning off the coast of Japan. The ship followed the route as part of a planned exercise, said Zhang Xiaogang, an official representative of the Chinese Ministry of Defense, TASS reports.

“According to the annual exercise plan of the People’s Liberation Army Navy [НОАК] It recently deployed a group of ships with the aircraft carrier Liaoning to conduct maneuvers in the Western Pacific and other waters.” – said.

A representative of the Chinese military department said that the exercises involving the aircraft carrier were aimed at improving the PLA Navy’s actual combat capabilities.

“There is no need for interested parties to over-interpret these maneuvers,” Zhang Xiaogang added.

China’s aircraft carrier Liaoning, accompanied by two destroyers, sailed for the first time between the remote Japanese islands of Yonaguni and Iriomote in the East China Sea on Sept. 18. No violations of Japan’s territorial waters were recorded.
