The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will travel to New York this Monday to attend the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Weekwhere he will participate in various events and receive the award of ‘World champion‘of the actress Anne Hathaway awarded by UN Women for its commitment to equality between men and women.
Sánchez will participate in the 79th session, which will take place from September 22 to 27 at the organization’s headquarters in New York under the theme “Leaving no one behind, acting together to advance peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.”
In this assembly, the political debate will focus on the Middle East conflictthe war in Loop and the fear of regional expansion in the Lebanonas well as the war of UkraineThese are two axes that continue to polarize the members of the United Nations where, according to diplomatic sources, different perceptions are fueled that often hamper the ability to cooperate in the face of global challenges.
On the other hand, the concern of several developing countries that demand solutions to the non-compliance by several countries will also be addressed. The President of the Government will attend the assembly with three main ideas on which he has based his program, according to government sources, such as maintaining peace, sustainable development and threats to democracy.

Later, within the UN Assembly, Sánchez would participate in the ‘World Economic Forum“with the President of Brazil and other leaders from Africa, Asia and Europe to discuss how to defend democracies against the attacks of extremism. It will be in this forum that Sánchez will present as one of the solutions the “Action Plan for Democracy” approved this Tuesday by the Council of Ministers as measures to be established in the different countries to combat hoaxes, “fake news” and improve public debate.
