Pradales gives Sánchez a “realistic” transfer timetable and hopes to complete Gernika’s status in 2025

This Friday, the Lehendakari, Imanol Pradales, transmitted to the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, a new “realistic” timetable to “accelerate” the transfer to the Basque Country of the 29 transfers pending and hopes that the Statute will be fully respected in 2025, as, as he recalled, was agreed in November 2023 between the PSOE and the PNV in the pact and the investiture.

Pradales added that once “the statutory file of Gernika is closed”, it will be necessary open “a new file to update Basque autonomy, expand it and improve it”.

He also stressed that both agreed that The bilateral transfer commission will be held at the end of October to resolve the pending transfer issues, the first block of which is due to be concluded this year 2024, as Lehendakari pointed out.

This Friday, Sánchez began the series of contacts with the regional presidents with Pradales to discuss the new financing model of Moncloa. This will be the second meeting between the president of the Spanish Executive and the Lehendakari, after their first meeting on July 26 at the Ajuria Enea Palace in Vitoria-Gasteiz.

Shared agenda

Lehendakari, published in La Moncloa, explained that in the meeting this Wednesday, the two governments have “a shared agenda and work schedule” and that the meeting served to review the degree of development of these issues and to prepare the Permanent Bilateral Commission, which agreed to be held at the end of October.

“Respecting the commitments made on the dates set requires us all speed up the transition to the Spanish government as well as to the Government of Euskadi,” he added.

As he pointed out, the meeting served “to add additional equipment to this work schedule”. In this sense, he explained that he had transmitted to the Spanish president “a realistic and achievable timetable for all pending transfers to close the Gernika Statute.” He added that it includes “a detailed proposal to close a first block of transfers before the end of this year.”

Imanol Pradales added that once “the statutory file of Gernika is closed”, “a new file will have to be opened to update Basque autonomy, expand it and improve it”.
