When it comes to planning a getaway, the environment usually weighs in the choice of destination. The particularities offered by the coast, the mountains or the countryside for example can be attractive to consider. But in all, depending on who, red lines can exist. Something similar happened this month at Casa Elvira, a rural accommodation in Orense where, despite the good marks received by its facilities, One couple cut short their stay after the first night, irritated by the crowing of a rooster.
The two clients had travelled to Galicia from Catalonia and had booked their stay at the accommodation in the municipality of Orense de San Amaro for three days, from 19 to 22 August. “They arrived and loved the house, the garden, the surroundings, the bed… It turns out that the next morning they call us and say: ‘We’re leaving’.” “We were very surprised,” recalls Elvira López, who runs the company with her husband, Roberto Terranova, about her first reaction in a conversation with ABC. “We thought the problem was that there could be a family problem, even a serious one. So “They told us they couldn’t sleep because of the rooster.” This explanation surprised the host couple because, Elvira says, in rural areas “the sounds of the countryside cannot be avoided, that’s what they are”, just as is the case for the aforementioned coastal or mountain destinations and the wildlife of each place.
“The fact is that they were super friendly, attentive. Of course, we said that we couldn’t do anything about it, and they even said yes, that they knew it and that they didn’t expect the money from the reservation to be returned.” The problem, he says, is that on the online platform with which they had booked their stay, Booking, the couple left a rating of 5 out of 10, which “lowers the score of the whole season”, full of highlights. The title of the comment warns: “A rural accommodation where there is a rooster nearby who does not let you sleep.” Indeed, as an argument in its favor, he mentions the “very comfortable” double bed and confirms that “everything was super clean and well maintained”. He speaks of his hosts as “magnificent people, very attentive” and highlights the “refreshing swimming pool and garden” of the house. Then, present the problem.
“There was a rooster nearby who didn’t let us sleep the first night and the next day we left the accommodation. He sang in the evening from 3 to 5 in the morning. We did not stay the three days we had contracted because we were resting and needed silence at night and [el] “The rooster wouldn’t let us rest,” he explains. This is the worst review on the site – in terms of score – and after the surprise it caused them, the hosts decided to take it with humor and understand it as something anecdotal.
“Our son said, ‘Why don’t you put it on Instagram?’ because it even made us laugh,” Elvira recalls casually about the post that, because it is striking, ended up going viral.
