The president of the Xunta, Alfonso Rueda, said that his meeting with the president of the government was limited to “a lot of good words and few specifics”, without reaching agreements on key issues for the regional mandate, such as the reform of regional financing or the lack of commitment to mobilizing European funds in strategic projects such as the Altri textile fiber factory.
This is what he said after his meeting with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in La Moncloa. The long-awaited meeting that takes place two years after the first face-to-face between the two leaders, in July 2022. A meeting that had similar topics to those of this occasion and that remain pending, such as electricity planning, investments in infrastructure or the transfer of powers such as the AP-9 motorway.
The main issue for Rueda, the reform of the autonomous financing model in a “multilateral” manner, still has no concrete answer from Sánchez. The Conference of Presidents that the Galician president had already requested will take place “imminently” according to the president of the government – who did not specify a date -, although the reason will be housing and not financing, as requested by Rueda and other regional presidents.
