Carlos Palencia, director of the Cutrecon Festival, talks about what differentiates a bad film from a bad film

There are many of them movies which could be considered bad. But, in many cases, this “shabby” makes people fall in love with them. So much so that they even dedicate festivals to them. Carlos Palenciadirector of CutreConThe Cutre International Film Festival in Madrid, discusses these topics with Zapeando movies who have more and more fans.

Palencia indicates that even if there is no official definition shitty movie, at the festival they look for movies so bad “that they give real laugh see them, that they are involuntary comedies.” “The idea is that there is a conjunction of elements that at the end, while you’re watching the movie, instead of getting into it, you come out and say ‘what’s going on here‘”, adds Palencia.

And that’s precisely where the difference between a bad movie and a crappy movie lies: “it makes you laugh“. “Most bad movies don’t make you laugh, they are boring and they don’t bring anything,” says Palencia. And the fact that they are old-fashioned does not mean that they are cheap movies“Bad cinema doesn’t understand budgets,” he says.
