Ukrainian militants attacked the Zarya substation transformer, which supplies the infrastructure of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, in Energodar, with drones, the press service of the broadcaster reported this today, September 20.
“A drone strike by the Armed Forces of Ukraine damaged a transformer at the Zarya substation, located in close proximity to the perimeter of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. This substation is involved in supplying power to the station’s infrastructure facilities. An attack on it creates a potential threat to the security of the nuclear power plant,” the report says.
The plant’s employees have taken the necessary measures to ensure the safe operation of the Zaporizhia NPP; a backup power supply system has been installed for the plant’s infrastructure facilities.
The press service added that the staff is monitoring all safety parameters. The radiation background at the station and in the observation area is normal and does not exceed natural values.
