Oscar Martínez of Quel Pérezprofessor of Public University of Navarra (UPNA)has been appointed performance director of the Spanish karate team whose next challenge is Team World Cup, organized at the Navarra Arena pavilion in Pamplona this weekend.
Thus, the education of the diploma in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences (CAFYD) from the Arrosadia campus in the Navarrese capital and the double diploma in CAFYD and Physiotherapy in Tudela “combines his experience as an athlete (was world karate medalist) and his university career for optimize the performance of those who make up the national team in the largest competition in the world of this martial art”, which brings together the best athletes from more than forty countries in the Navarrese capital between Friday 22 and Sunday 24 November.

Óscar Martínez de Quel (Arnedo, La Rioja, 1976) has a strong sporting career having been part of the Spanish karate team for twelve of the 25 years it has been active. His achievements include two gold medals, one silver and one bronze at the absolute world championships. Subsequently, he was a coach of the Royal Spanish Karate Federation from 1999 to 2017, for which he worked as a physical trainer and coach at the High Performance Center in Madrid.
From an academic point of view, Óscar Martínez de Quel is a graduate and doctor in physical activity and sports sciences.in addition to having obtained a degree in psychology. He was a full professor at the Faculty of Education of the Complutense University of Madrid and at the INEF of the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
