Navarrese researchers from the Minerva II project discover the keys to making new drugs for patients with serious illnesses

He Department of Industry and Business Ecological and digital transition financed with 1.1 million euros the development of a strategic R&D project with which they identified new biomarkers which will allow the drug development For treat patients with cardiorenal diseases.

The project, called Minerva IIwas developed by a consortium composed of CIMA, the University Hospital of Navarre, the University Clinic of Navarre, Navarrabiomed and the company NNBI.

Both heart failure like the chronic kidney disease These are increasingly common pathologies in our society. Furthermore, they are diseases that have a very poor prognosis since the two feed off each other, increasing the negative impact they have on patients.

Faced with this problem, current treatments opt for a generalized solutiondespite the fact that these are very heterogeneous syndromes and without taking into account a personalized diagnosis for each patient.

This project was born from the need to improve personalized diagnosis and risk stratification in patients with cardiorenal disease.

pruner find personalized solutions for the treatment of this disease 1,000 patients with cardiorenal disease were selected. From this sample, a liquid biopsy was developed using multiobjective studies which made it possible to detect a series of biomarkers associated with the development and progression of this disease.

These biomarkers will be useful to improve disease risk assessment and thus be able to choose a personalized treatment for each patient suffering from this disease.

In addition, thanks to this project, they identified new therapeutic targets this could lead to the development of new pharmacological strategies in the near future.

Minerva II strategic project

Minerva II This is a project developed as part of the department’s 2021-2024 call for strategic R&D projects.

The consortium that developed This project is supported by CIMA- University of Navarre and in which the Departments of Cardiology and Nephrology of the University Hospital of Navarra and the Clínica Universidad de Navarra also participate, as well as the Navarrabiomed Biobank and the NNBI company.

This project concerns a evolution of the Minerva Ideveloped as part of the call for aid for strategic R&D projects of 1.2 million euros and which laid the foundations for this new work.
