Czech Parliament failed to pass anti-Russian amendment to Ukraine law

The lower house of the Czech Parliament was unable to complete the process of passing an amendment to the Law of Ukraine (lex Ukrajina). This was reported by the authority’s press service.

Deputies from the ANO opposition movement reportedly questioned the criminalization of unauthorized activities in favor of a foreign power, the penalty for which could be one to 15 years in prison. ANO deputies called this point “labeling.” At the same time, the head of the Ministry of the Interior Vit Rakushan To this he objected that the proposal was based on a discussion of the problem with security forces and was related to Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Recall that in the Czech Republic the temporary protected status for refugees from Ukraine is valid until March 2025, which gives Ukrainians access to state health insurance, education and the labor market. The draft amendment assumes that refugees who decide to settle in the Czech Republic and do not need protection status will be able to obtain a special long-term residence permit. According to President Vit Rakušan, only those Ukrainians who have been in the Czech Republic for more than two years will be able to benefit from the amendment.
