Hezbollah confirms death of another top commander in attack on Beirut suburbs

Hezbollah confirmed on Saturday the death of Ahmed Wahbi, a senior commander who oversaw the military operations of Radwan’s special forces during the Gaza war until early 2024, in Israeli bombardments on the Beirut suburb known as Dahye, a stronghold of the Lebanese Shiite group.

Wahbi’s death follows that of the head of Al Radwan, the elite unit of the pro-Iranian organization, Ibrahim Aqil, nicknamed “The Efficient”, one of Hezbollah’s most experienced leaders.

The bombing of a residential building in Beirut’s southern suburb of Dahye left at least 14 dead and 66 injured, according to the latest report provided by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health.

Aqil’s killing comes less than two months after another attack attributed to Israel ended the life of Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fouad Shukr, also in a building in Dahye.

On this occasion, this new attack comes after this week two waves of simultaneous explosions of thousands of communications devices carried by members of Hezbollah which killed 37 people and injured nearly 3,000 in Lebanon.
