Hamas warns Israel it will pay ‘high price’ for Hezbollah commander’s death

The Islamist group Hamas on Saturday regretted the death yesterday of Hezbollah’s top commander, Ibrahim Aqil, in an Israeli airstrike in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, and assured that Israel would pay a high price. “This crime committed by the (Israeli) occupation is a reckless act for which you will pay a high priceand the blood of the martyr, leader Ibrahim Aqil […] “will be the flames that will engulf this artificial entity,” Hamas said in a statement.

Hezbollah confirmed this friday too the death of the “great leader”as well as three commanders of Radwan’s special forces: Ahmed Wahbi, who oversaw military operations during the Gaza war, Abu Yaser Atar and Al Hajj Nineveh. According to the Israeli military, at least a dozen Hezbollah members died alongside Aqil.

Hamas thanked the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon for the “great sacrifices made“in order to continue supporting the Palestinian people, as Hezbollah attacks northern Israel in solidarity with the war in Gaza, and has repeatedly reiterated that it will not stop doing so until the end of the war.

The bombing of a residential building in the southern suburb of Beirut, known as Dahye, It has already caused at least 14 deaths and 66 injuries.according to the latest report provided by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. Aqil’s killing comes less than two months after another attack attributed to Israel ended the life of Hezbollah’s top military commander, Fouad Shukr, also in a building in Dahye.

On this occasion, the new attack comes after the two waves of explosions of thousands of communications devices carried by members of Hezbollah – and attributed to Israel -, during which 37 people died and nearly 3,000 were injured in Lebanon.
