The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, announced this Thursday that the AP-66 bypass would open on Sunday “if the weather permits” and if workers can gather from Friday.
Puente indicated that, until the slope is fully restored, this bypass, being constructed to mitigate the effects of the slope caused by a landslide on November 10, will consist of two lanes going uphill, towards from the Meseta, and a descent, towards Oviedo and Gijón.
The recovery works of the AP-66 after the collapse suffered at kilometer 76, in the Asturian municipality of Arnón, which keeps the infrastructures managed by Aucalsa inoperative, continue to allow the activation of a platform on the right side of the road.
The objective is to place in this space the dynamic screen, the practical guard and the detour itself with one lane in each direction. This is a road that has an average daily traffic intensity of 8,000 vehicles, including 1,300 heavy vehicles.
Temporary detour
The aim of the work, carried out by the motorway concession company, is to carry out the temporary detour and the Ministry verifies that it is correctly carried out. The end result will be lanes separated by a concrete barrier, which will be wider than normal.
Concretely, they will measure approximately four meters each, to allow the passage of snow plows.
In order to level the clearing and build the platform, mechanical means and blasting are used depending on the type of rock and its hardness.
In this sense, this Thursday the first blasting was carried out to release the hardest rock and then proceed with its crushing and removal. Additionally, progress is being made in the disposal of already ground materials.
