“Regarding reports that this winter will be harsh in Azerbaijan, we would like to inform you that although long-term forecasts indicate general global trends, this is not a reason to express an accurate opinion on seasonal weather conditions in a particular country.”
Oku.Az This was stated by Nazim Mahmudov, Head of the National Hydrometeorological Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
He said that providing long-term weather data is hypothetical and that such forecasts of how winter will pass are usually prepared based on seasonal forecasts from regional climate centres of the World Meteorological Organization:
“However, unlike short- and medium-range forecasts, seasonal weather forecasts covering a longer period are relatively less accurate. We will present to the public an official forecast for December, the first month of winter, in late autumn season.”
