After a negotiation that lasted almost to the end, a few hours before the package was voted on, Ione Belarra’s party and the government agreed to promote a new bill aimed at approving a tax on energy companies. However, this pact includes the requirement that Junts had made to approve the reform: that this agreement includes benefits for companies so that they can deduct part of this tax with investments in decarbonization.
Along the same lines, shortly after Podemos announced the agreement, when asked whether Junts “agreed” with what had been announced, Justice Minister Félix Bolaños responded: “There will be a majority and it will move forward.”
“The agreement represents the commitment of the PSOE and Podemos to promote a new bill containing a tax on energy companies. With this objective, in the coming days, a negotiating commission will be created with the participation of all the political parties necessary to approve this reform in order to obtain the necessary consensus to approve this tax”, reported Ione Belarra’s party in a press release.
However, the agreement announced by Podemos adds that if a consensus does not emerge before December 31, the government will have to approve a royal decree with an extension for the whole year, in the same spirit as previously agreed by ERC.
