The Government of Castilla-La Mancha actively participates in the creation of the intergroup of European wine regions, within the European Committee of the Regions, to defend the interests of the region’s wine sector in Europe. “Castile-La Mancha could not be absent from the creation of this intergroup of European wine regions and, moreover, we believe that it is a good initiative that is created within the Committee of the Regions,” explained Caballero. The second vice-president stressed that “wine binds us as a European territory and also promotes our international trade with third, non-EU countries.”
In this sense, José Manuel Caballero recalled that Castilla-La Mancha is the largest wine-growing region in Europe and the world.. It is for this reason that he stressed that the autonomous community must be protagonist in the management of everything that concerns the wine sector at European level, the living conditions of winegrowers and everything that the industry represents at European level . “The objective of this intergroup is to carry out joint projects between different regions of Spain and Europe that are wine producers and that can represent common interests by having similar objectives,” he said. “This is the commitment that the president has acquired because we have to work together on this subject, especially around everything that concerns regulation, the marketing of wine and the limitations that may arise at any given moment in relation to its labeling,” explained the second vice-president.
Regarding the regulations relating to wine labeling, the second vice president explained that “what we achieve is that the sector is allowed to allow wine to reflect its composition on the label without becoming an obstacle to time of marketing. Concerning this position of Government of Castile-La ManchaCaballero emphasized that they bet on a culture of balance in which it is defended that wine consumed in moderation has positive effects.
“What cannot in any way be done is generate alarmism and everything that ban means ultimately has the opposite effect,” he stressed, explaining that in return, what commercialization wine should mean is that their income is improved. who produce it “who are our farmers, not only from Castile-La Mancha, from Spain and from all of Europe”.
The second vice president said that the Government of Castile-La Mancha hopes that there will be good news for the wine sector of Castile-La Mancha regarding the regulations on wine labeling. “There are a majority of regions and countries in Europe, including Spain, France, Italy, but not only us, but also Germany, Austria; “We have common interests because we are producers,” he stressed.
“It’s about working so that there is an agreement and not a restriction”he remarked. In this sense, the second vice-president explained that the Regional Executive defends that instead of prohibiting, it chooses to inform and train the public on the importance of responsible consumption.
José Manuel Caballero said he hopes that the European Union will continue to defend the interests of wine, its producers and everything related to agriculture and the wine trade. “We can guarantee that Castilla-La Mancha will be there with strength, conviction and recognition and with the direct involvement of President Emiliano García-Page in the defense of the sector before the European institutions,” he concluded.
