Kamala Harris widens lead over Trump: new data from The Guardian

Kamala Harris continues to widen her lead over Donald Trump, according to new data from a poll by British newspaper The Guardian.

Currently, 48% of respondents are willing to vote for the Democratic candidate, while Donald Trump wins at 45.9%. The difference of 2.6% is Harris’ best performance so far, although it is still within the statistical margin of error.

Experts say the televised debate on September 10 was the decisive factor in Harris’s popularity growth. During it, Trump made a number of mistakes, distracting himself with minor issues such as the size of his rallies and criticism of Haitian immigrants. This negatively affected his rating among voters.

Other polls also show a competitive race between the candidates. Harris and Trump were tied at 47% each, according to the NYTimes/Siena College poll. The most optimistic result for Harris was recorded in a Morning Consult poll, according to which 51% of 11,000 respondents preferred her, while Trump got 45%.

Analysts are paying particular attention to the key state of Pennsylvania, which could play a decisive role in the outcome of the election. Here, Harris leads Trump by 4%, winning 50% to his 46%. Other data from Pennsylvania confirm an even larger gap: 51% to 45%.

In addition to Pennsylvania, Harris also leads in Michigan and Wisconsin, where she leads Trump by 5% and 1% respectively. A win in these states could give her the margin she needs, even without a victory in the southern regions, traditionally supported by Republicans.

Despite Harris’ performance in the northern battleground states, analysts caution that Trump has often done better in past elections than polls predicted.

Interestingly, public opinion remains divided on key issues. Polls show 43% say Trump is the best candidate to improve the economy, while 41% support Harris. Still, Harris has a strong lead on health care, climate change policies, guns and abortion. Trump, in turn, maintains the edge on immigration and the war in Gaza.

The ADL condemned Trump for using “anti-Semitic tropes.”
