A new variant of the coronavirus is rapidly spreading across the Russian Federation, the Rospotrebnadzor press service reported.
It should be noted that the department’s specialists are constantly monitoring the incidence of a new variant of coronavirus infection called Covid-19 – XEC.
This variant is seasonal and is a recombination of the Omicron FLiRT subvariants: KS.1.1 and KP.3.3. The symptoms of the new infection are generally not different from the old manifestations of Covid-19. They manifest as fever, sore throat, cough, loss of smell and appetite, body aches, fatigue, headache and runny nose.
XEC was first discovered in Germany in June 2024 and has since been identified in several countries. The first cases of the variant were reported in Italy in May.
Rospotrebnadzor recommends that during the period of increasing incidence of the virus, people should take preventive measures: use personal protective equipment, wash their hands with soap, avoid contact with sick people, and ventilate the premises.
It is recommended to stay at home and consult a doctor if you feel unwell, especially for older people and people with chronic illnesses.
