Since the morning of DANA, Valencia 112 received calls regarding flood warningsof people asking for help, with water in their homes. Some calls, confirmed by an operator at LaSexta, were communicated to the Mazón government which, as we already know, did not act.
The same morning, Utiel or Requena were already literally underwater. A critical situation that has caused a large number of calls to the customer service offices of 112 in the Valencian Community. First thing in the morning, notices started coming in from people asking for help because they thought they were going to die.
“There were people with water at significant levels, In the morning, calls were made warning that people needed to be rescued.“, reveals Amparo López, emergency manager of 112 of the Valencian Community. Some calls of despair and fear of which 112 was notified to emergency managers and, therefore, to the government of Mazón.
“The number of calls received, the number of cases… the company transfers all this information to the administration. The administration is aware of everything that is happening in the room, if there are any anomalies or a peak in calls, it must be transferred”” declares Samuel Decler, UGT delegate to the Ilunion Emergency Business Committee.
Despite everything, and given the seriousness of these calls, the President of the Generalitat did not change his agenda and it took hours to send the alerts to citizens. And if in the emergency room, the day was real chaos, for those on the night shift, it was real hell.
“There were 70 calls waiting when I arrived.I’ve seen 85 and probably more. The people on the roofs called us very nervous,” says Amparo enthusiastically. At that point, the worst could no longer be avoided.
