The distribution company Lupa (Semark AC Group, SA) has purchased land in the Magaz de Pisuerga business park (Palencia), built by the Government of Castilla y León, to develop a 51,000 square meter logistics platform. These facilities will house a workforce of 500 people, including the company’s current workers in its current logistics center in Villamuriel de Cerrato. The Cantabrian company’s goal is to have the center at full capacity in the first quarter of 2027.
On August 29, the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the distribution company Lupa (Semark AC Group, SA) signed the purchase and sale agreement for the acquisition of land in the Magaz commercial park in Pisuerga (Palencia). This contract provides Lupa with an area of land that reaches 92,956 square meters, for a purchase value that reached 1.9 million euros. This project provides for the development of the second logistics platform of the distribution group and the development of the only freezing plant that distributes in Cantabria, La Rioja and Castilla y León.
On the land acquired in the Magaz de Pisuerga industrial zone, Lupa will have a 17,500 square meter logistics platform dedicated to packaged foods; 8,200 meters of beaches for packaged foods; 7,740 meters of fresh produce rooms; 4,380 meters of beaches for fresh produce; 5,400 meters for reverse logistics (recovery and recycling of plastic, cardboard); 1,350 meters of reserve for the growth of facilities and 6,630 meters intended for a freezing plant.
The company has another logistics platform built in Cantabria of 40,000 square meters that, together with the future Magaz logistics platform, will distribute the group’s supermarket network. This project responds to Lupa’s need to face the expected growth with these new facilities, given that the current ones in Villamuriel are insufficient.
The location of the Magaz Business Park enjoys a very competitive situation given its proximity to Palencia, Burgos and Valladolid. The industrial area is located at the foot of the A-610 (Palencia-Magaz de Pisuerga) for a length of two kilometers. This same highway connects the city of Palencia with the A-62 (Valladolid-Irún). It is located 500 meters from the urban center, seven kilometers from the capital Palentina, 50 from Valladolid and 80 from Burgos.
The Lupa Group, in full expansion, ended the 2023 financial year with a turnover of 1,039 million euros and currently has 6,531 employees, 214 supermarkets and 11 wholesale establishments distributed across the three autonomous communities in which it is established.
Record sales of commercial land
The Ministry of Economy and Finance, through the ICE, has reached a record of sales of commercial land in the Community in 2023 with 917,000 square meters, 92 percent more land sold than in 2022. This is the best data since 2004.
These land sales, worth 16.3 million euros, involved a private investment of 238,366,472 euros from 29 purchasing companies, with the creation of 693 new jobs on commercial land sold last year.
