Despite the informative pyrotechnics with which some media celebrated his appointment, I do not know if retired lieutenant general Francisco José Gan Pampols is the most suitable person to coordinate the reconstruction of Valencia after the DANA of October 29: the president of the Valencian Community, Carlos Mazón has just appointed him vice-president with this task and prudence advises evaluating his work as we learn the results. Gan Pampols’ military record is admirable and, from what I have read, is supported by similar experience in Afghanistan. From what I understood, this job consisted of coordinating the security of civilian actions taking place as part of the reconstruction of the Asian country; a mission undoubtedly important, but different from the management of the reconstruction itself. Regardless, it is reasonable to wait before judging.
What I wish to discuss here, and with concern, is the anti-political climate fueling the nomination of Gan Pampols, fueled largely by himself.
