Barcelona’s Port Olímpic was built in 1990 to host the sailing competitions of the 1992 Olympic Games. Since April 2020, Barcelona City Council has begun the transformation of the Port Olímpic in preparation for the Sailing America’s Cup. Coinciding with the celebration of this important event in 2024, work has begun to make the Port a new link between the city’s daily life and the sea.
The generation of public spaces, with large areas for walking and staying near the sea, the reconnection of the Port Olímpic with the environment and the economic revitalization linked to the sea are the main elements that make up this new route.
After visiting the Nou Port Olímpic, His Majesty the King will go to the Maritime Museum of Barcelona, where he will preside over the institutional welcoming ceremony of the 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup, in Barcelona.
The 37th edition of the America’s Cup will be held between August and October 2024 in Barcelona. With the teams’ bases spread throughout Port Vell, the regattas will take place in front of Barcelona’s beach, all the way to Port Olímpic. The 37th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup in Barcelona will also feature youth and women’s regattas (UniCredit Youth and Puig Women’s America’s Cup).
