There are three Formula 1 races remaining: Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. And the two World Cups still at stake. ET Carlos Sainz aspires to that of builders with Ferrari. This is the last objective that was set before leaving at the end of the year with direction Williams. He says “it would be amazing” to achieve something like that.
“I would love to win the championship for Ferrari this year. It would be an incredible way to end the season. But we went through a difficult stage in the middle of the season which could cost us dearly, so we will see how we manage it now,” said the Spanish driver during the press conference in Las Vegas this Thursday.
“I think we are within our reach (of the championship), but at the same time we need MClaren makes mistakes. Because if they don’t fail by the end, it doesn’t matter if we win and finish second in every race. McLaren can probably keep it. There are also two circuits that favor McLaren more than Ferrari. It’s more Ferrari than McLaren, but at the same time the temperature doesn’t help,” Carlos explains.
And this weekend, they could have another chance at victory. Because Las Vegas should benefit from the Ferrari’s features.
“I think looking at the layout of the circuit you would say yes. Ferrari should be competitive or at least in the mix. But when we feel the temperatures and we know how much we suffered this year to warm up the tires, certainly not,” explains Carlos who wants to be champion before leaving.
