THE OCU has once again made the news thanks to its latest analysis, focused on the quality of semi-skimmed milk brands for sale in the supermarkets. On this occasion, the OCU evaluated 38 brands of this type of milk, one of the most consumed in Spain, with the aim of helping consumers make informed decisions during the purchasing decision process. The analysis looked at several aspects, from nutritional quality to flavor and texture.

Additionally, a study was included on pasteurization and sterilization processesto ensure that milk is free of dangerous microorganisms. The analysis carried out by OCU took into account nutritional parameters, such as fat, protein and calcium contentas well as the sensory experience, which was evaluated by a panel of experts. The experts evaluated aspects such as flavor, aroma, texture and overall quality of each brand. The study results highlighted large differences between brands, revealing some with very low scoresboth in quality and flavor.

OCU reports worst milk shipments to supermarkets

THE Auchan brand semi-skimmed (Alcampo) received the lowest score, with just 44 points out of 100. The OCU report notes that its manufacturing process is poor, which could indicate the addition of water and permeates, reducing both its nutritional value and flavor. Its price of 0.71 euros per liter does not compensate for these disadvantages.

In the same group are Semi-skimmed Supersolwith a score of 52, and Semi-skimmed Xoiawith 53 points. Both brands have an acceptable nutritional profile, but their low quality in the production process and poor taste reviews hurt their overall rating. Supersol costs 0.58 euros per liter, while Xoia costs 0.60 euros. The OCU emphasizes that, although price may be an attractive factor, the choice of these brands could result in a product of lower nutritional quality and less satisfactory taste.

And the best?

Semi-skimmed milk from the Hacendado brand, on sale at Mercadona Supermarketswas recognized as the best option in terms of quality according to the OCU analysis. With a price of 0.83 euros per liter, this milk obtained a score of 78 points out of 100, standing out for its production process and a flavor that meets consumer expectations. This recognition places Hacendado at the top of the ranking of semi-skimmed milk brands, surpassing other options on the market.

In the list of the best brands of semi-skimmed milk according to the OCU, The Good Shepherd follows closely with 76 points, followed by Clésa Bienatur with 75. Other brands such as Llet Nostra and Pascual also appear in the ranking, obtaining scores of 71 and 70 points respectively. Hacendado and Llet Nostra milk come from farms in different Spanish regions, such as Galicia, Asturias and Catalonia, known for their dairy tradition.

The different types of milk

THE skimmed milk It is one that has been subjected to a fat removal process, reducing its fat content to approximately 0.1%. This option is particularly popular among those looking for an alternative low in calories and saturated fat, as part of diets aimed at weight loss or cholesterol control. Although most of the fat is removed, it remains an important source of calcium, protein and vitamins, such as A and D, although in lesser amounts than whole milk.

THE semi-skimmed milk is a term used to describe milk with a moderate fat content, usually between 1% and 1.5%. This milk is an intermediate option between whole milk and skimmed milk. It is ideal for those looking to control their fat intake without giving up all the flavor of milk. It retains essential nutrients like calcium and vitamins A, D and B12, but with less fat than whole milk.

THE whole milk This is the option with the highest fat content, around 3.5%, giving it a richer texture and creamier flavor. This milk is ideal for those looking for a drink with more satiety and energy. It is an excellent source of calcium, protein and vitamins A, D and B12. Although its higher calorie content is not suitable for everyone, it remains very popular for its flavor and is used in cooking to prepare different recipes.

THE recommended amount of milk per day varies depending on each person’s age, nutritional needs and diet. Generally speaking, it is recommended to consume between 250 ml and 500 ml of milk per day for adults, which is equivalent to one or two glasses. This provides a good amount of calcium, protein and vitamins. For children, the amount may be higher, depending on their age and needs.
