The Deputy for Culture, Juan de Dios Navarro, chaired this Sunday in the plenary hall of the Provincial Palace the commemorative event of the ‘Day of the Alicante of Adoption‘, of which qualification honorary fell this year on the doctor ophthalmology specialist Medina Azahara Moyaoriginally from El Bonillo, Albacete.
This recognition, awarded by the institution for more than twenty years, has the main objective of recognizing and thanking the link, the trajectory and the defense of the province of people who were not born there but who reside there.
Juan of God NavarreseDuring his speech, he praised the professional career of Medina Azahara Moya, highlighting her academic achievements and her extensive curriculum “full of courses, conferences, symposia, training, communications, publications, research work and teaching activity.”
“Always in favor of eye health of his patients, always in favor of instilling in his students the passion for learning, personal development and the maxim of improving the quality of life of people,” stressed the deputy for Culture, who transmitted to him on behalf of the president of the Provincial Council, Toni Perezand on behalf of the entire provincial corporation, congratulations “for this well-deserved title with which you are part of a long list of men and women who already hold it.”

Medina Azahara Moya Moya, originally from The Bonillobegan his early school years in his hometown, from where he moved to Albacete to continue his studies. Later, he ended up in Madrid to study medicine and surgery at the Complutense University. Once he finished his studies, he obtained a position as a resident internal physician in ophthalmology at the Hospital General of Alicanteafter which he completed the doctoral courses of the experimental medicine program at the University University Miguel Hernandez Elche.
Through a competitive examination, he obtained a permanent position at the General Hospital of Alicante, where he carried out his care activities focused, fundamentally, on diseases of the retina and surgery cataracts.
The Culture MP stressed that this act constitutes a “praise to those people who, without being born here, demonstrate strong values of respect for our land, effort to improve it, integration into the community and the need to take root in a place that ultimately becomes our home.
In this sense, he insisted that the province of Alicante “is a welcoming, hospitable and open land, which is why we cherish the mixture of cultures, folklore and traditions that add to ours and enrich us. “Our greatest vocation has always been to focus our attention not on what differentiates us, but on the feeling of unity and belonging to the same identity,” Navarro said.
The event took place in the presence of the deputy mayor of The city hall of Alicante, Manuel Villar, the delegate of the Consell of Alicante, Agustina Esteve, the president of the Federation of Regional Houses, Miguel Beano, the Bellesa of Foc of Alacant, Alba Muñoz, as well as members of the Provincial societyrepresentatives of the Regional housesAlicante adoption officials from previous editions and other authorities.
The event, hosted by the Group of Battery of the Association of Hellinerosbegan in the gardens of the Provincial Palace with the reception of the Regional Houses. After the reception, the investiture ceremony of the “Alicantina of Adoption” took place and, subsequently, the folk parade from the Esplanade to the City Hall.
