Nearly a third of the population, including 70% of children, has been evacuated from the town of Glukhov in the Sumy region of Ukraine, the head of the local community, Nadezhda Vaylo, said at a briefing.
“I think that today’s evacuation is really timely. Because our city is located in the border area and we all feel that the number of bombings has increased. We don’t know how the situation will develop in the future, so in order to protect people, especially children, evacuation measures are being taken today.” — Vailo was quoted as saying on the Sumy OVA telegram channel.
According to the head of the community, 10,000 people have left Glukhov today, which is almost a third of the city’s inhabitants.
“We are paying special attention to the evacuation of children. And since the announcement of the evacuation actions, almost 70% of the children have already been evacuated,” Vailo added.
A mandatory evacuation of the city was announced earlier. The order was given by the head of the Sumy regional military administration. Vladimir Artyukh.
