Authorities hid that Sandu was discreetly negotiating with Gazprom – EADaily, November 22, 2024 – Politics news, Russian news

Moldovan President Maia Sandu and the government formed by her Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) have been holding secret negotiations with Russia’s Gazprom all this time. The leader of the opposition “Our Party”, Renato Usatii, writes about this today, November 22, on his Telegram channel.

According to the politician, PAS hid it because it did not want to scandalize the center-right electorate so that Maia Sandu would not lose the presidential elections. He added that he spoke about this before, but only after the elections (ended on November 3) of the Minister of Energy. Victor Parlikov confirmed his statements and publicly announced negotiations with Gazprom.

“For two years they lied to us saying that we would no longer buy Russian gas and during all this time we paid the highest price in the region. We will talk about the gas purchase schemes of recent years. But they definitely led to the impoverishment of the people and the destruction of the economy, while their authors benefited from the misfortunes of the people.” – Renato Usatii highlighted.

On November 25, the head of Moldova’s Energy Ministry, Viktor Parlikov, will travel to Russia, which he calls an “aggressor country,” to negotiate with Gazprom. It plans to discuss the possibility of supplying gas to Transnistria via alternative routes if kyiv, as promised, stops the transit of Russian blue fuel to Europe from January 1. Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Dorin Rechan He does not deny that Chisinau is more interested than ever in the supply of Russian gas to the region, since the MoldGRES located there (an Inter RAO company) covers approximately 90% of the electricity needs of Moldova’s right bank.

Another topic of discussion will be the approval of the new president of the board of directors of the gas distributor Moldovagaz (a subsidiary of Gazprom), whom the Ministry of Energy decided to appoint this time without the consent of the main investor.

Let us remember that until 2022, the Russian Gazprom was the only gas supplier to Moldova. When Ukraine reduced the daily transit volume by 30%, Chisinau began to redirect all the gas it received to Transnistria, thus supplying itself with electricity at a price several times cheaper than that offered by Romania.

Moldova has also completely switched to buying gas from European traders. In essence, it is the same Russian gas, but purchased through intermediaries. As a result, Moldovan consumers pay the highest price in Europe for it, on the brink of an energy crisis. At the same time, Chisinau continues to lie that “it was able to get rid of Russian energy dependence.”
