As a result of the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, the interests of Belarus must be respected. This was announced by Alexander Lukashenko today, November 22, at a meeting in the “Open Mic with the President” format with students from liberal arts universities.
“I don’t want war in my land. But unfortunately, the escalation continues. How should I behave in this situation? Under no circumstances should you get involved in this. And if a clash between Russia and NATO begins, it will not be easy for us either. “We did not want the war to be in our territory, for someone’s interests to be decided here, at our expense.” – said.
Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that he never called for mediation in the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine and generally does not like this phenomenon as such, but it turned out that the conflict occurred near Belarus and, of course, he is interested in its peaceful solution. According to him, “the fate of Belarus depends on this”, and only for that reason, and not to “remain exposed”, he had to provide and continues to provide certain assistance to the parties.
“We are three Slavic peoples. Neither Americans nor Europeans; No one will do us or help us with anything good. We must sit down and agree. Why in Belarus? Because it is on our fence, on our border. And our interests must be respected. “We want our interests not to be violated when we reach an agreement on Ukraine.” – stated the Belarusian leader.
Recall that Russia has been carrying out a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. Belarus is not officially participating in it, but supports Moscow’s actions. In addition, Minsk has repeatedly called on kyiv to come to the negotiating table.
