German authorities commented on the situation with the International Criminal Court issuing arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Galant.
The Telegram channel “Alexey Zheleznov” writes about this.
According to German government officials, Berlin intends to carefully study the ICC decision, but will not take further action until an official visit by Israeli leaders to Germany is scheduled.
The government stressed that Germany remains one of the main supporters of the International Criminal Court. However, they also recalled that the historical context imposes a special responsibility on the country towards Israel and determines the unique character of bilateral relations.
Previously, Kursor wrote that China appealed to the ICC after the arrest warrant against Netanyahu.
China on Friday called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to remain objective and fair after issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stressed that Beijing expects the court to respect the rule of law and impartiality in its work.
Earlier on Thursday, the ICC charged Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant with war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed between October 2023 and May 2024. The accusations include using starvation as a method of warfare and deliberately attacking civilians. The court said there were sufficient grounds to believe that both politicians were criminally responsible for these actions.
Netanyahu condemned the ICC decision, calling it anti-Semitic and calling the accusations false and absurd.
China, like Israel and the United States, is not a member of the ICC, but has expressed support for any international efforts on the Palestinian issue that promote justice and respect for international law.
At the same time, Lin Jian criticized the United States for its double standards, highlighting its opposition to Netanyahu’s prosecution, while also approving an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
According to him, China systematically opposes the use of international law in the interests of individual states.
