“We are faced with unique situations in a democracy”

The president of Family business in Castile and León (EFCL), Isidoro Alaníscrossed out this Friday “massive error” the reduction of working hours37.5 hours per week, after which this measure is applied without the support of employers. In fact, Alanís criticized “the forms” of the government for having approved them by decree-law and, precisely, without having the approval of the country’s business community.

“We are having to endure, businessmen, unique situations in democracy. And it’s one of them,” Alanís responded to questions from the media, in statements collected by Ical at the Arzobispo Fonseca school in Salamanca, where the Empresa Familiar de Castilla y León is hosting the Sixth Interregional Meeting of family businesses with presence in the capital of Tormes of more than 120 businessmen.

According to Isidoro Alanís, president of the Salmancan multinational Global Exchange, “we cannot reduce the working day”because, from his point of view, “we cannot become less productive in Spain”, since, according to him, “this is not how a society will progress”.

“Don’t let them confuse us. Ultimately, businesses need to be more productive because we are competing with every country in the region. Therefore, reducing the working day is a big mistake. And to do it by decree-law, those who pride themselves on negotiating everything, talking to everyone and being very democratic, I think they are not. So no to reducing working hours and less with these forms”, was established in this sense.

Alanís’s criticism of the government did not stop at the approval of this regulation, but also highlighted the discredit “without reason” which was attributed to the Minister of Labor and Vice-President of the Central Executive, Yolanda Diaz. “The last, without a doubt, which is already the maximum of unreason, was the criticism of companies with DANA. We cannot accept that the vice-president of the government, instead of getting to work on reconstruction, only has the power tobusiness criticism session, by saying that we demand that employees go to work,” he censored.

A circumstance that he considers “impossible”. “Generally speaking, employers are not going to put their employees to work. In any case, they will help with the reconstruction, like the president of Mercadonawho is a national example, and who invested 75 million euros in the community and received only destructive criticism”, concluded Alanís.

That of Idisoro Alanís was not the only critical voice of businessmen raised this Friday in the Community. Also president of CEOE in Castilla y León, Santiago Aparicioaccused Yolanda Díaz and stressed that they will no longer sit down to address the reduction of working hours because “we no longer have anything to say” in the face of the constant “ultimatum” to businessmen without any proposalon the table. “The issue is already settled, the government must now do what it wants,” he declared, also attacking CCOO and UGT for “circumvent” collective bargaining.
