Now the left no longer likes democracy

Almost suddenly, they stopped loving democracy. To our mandarins, I say, to the turnista system which has governed us since the post-war period and which has long since agreed on everything that is important.

It’s not that the word has lost its talismanic value, and we will continue to hear them asking for it in respectful tones long after no trace of it remains. The problem is, as Humpty Dumpty says in Alice in Wonderlandwords mean what they mean. They’ve done it before with too many things for it to surprise us now.

Mencken, that wise American journalist of the beginning of the last century, said that if anything substantial could be changed by voting, it would already have been prohibited. He also said, in a display of exaggerated cynicism, that thinking you’re going to change something by voting is like thinking you’re going to get rich by buying a lottery ticket.

It was the confidence of the regime that made his naps so peaceful. So far, there is a possibility that people will buy the winning ticket. And this is what they are in no way willing to consent to. And if democracy has to be destroyed to save it, then it will be destroyed.

We saw it with Trump. I don’t know if the New Yorker will ultimately be able to dismantle the dense web of deep state and establishment interests. woke up. I know, because I have it before my eyes, that they fear it like the plague.

They pulled out all the stops against him: fabricated scandals, wild accusations, dozens of criminal and civil cases, exasperated propaganda, assassination attempts. This is enough for me to infer, at least, Trump’s good faith, whether or not he ends up being defeated by his enemies.

But in Europe, they are no less desperate. A motion to ban Alternative for Germany, second in terms of popular support in the country, has already been presented to the Bundestag. The sovereignists are already moving forward with their hands tied behind their backs, because the German security services have the authorization to monitor the private communications of their leaders, and even the German Churches, Lutheran and Catholic, vehemently demand that they not be elected .

All parties in the system welcome this measure, which would leave a large part of the electorate without representation. What will voters know about what is best for them?

In other countries, the famous/infamous cordon santé works. Thus, in Austria, the Freedom Party (FPÖ) received the most votes in the last elections, but a crazy coalition is already being created to exclude it from the government, so that it does not accede in power.

In France, they did the same thing with the National Rally, but in case they had combined the Austrian strategy with the North American one, and brought its leader, Marine Le Pen, to the bench, with no less abstruse accusations and debatable than Trump. The idea is that if he is found guilty in the first instance, even if he appeals, he will not be able to run in the next presidential elections, which he would win in the streets.

The very rise of sovereignist parties is clear proof that we are in an epochal change, of what pedants call “paradigm”, and the beast is already mortally wounded. But there is nothing more dangerous than a wounded animal.

There is a match.
