Urban planning begins processing a PGOU innovation after 34 years without the site having been activated for social purposes

Construction of the old Córdoba cinema in the southern sector ABC

The owners of the old Córdoba Cinema in the South Sector having dealt with an innovation of the General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU) before the Urban Planning Department to allow their use of public social facilities to be abandoned and the commercial use.

The next government council, which will be held on Tuesday 26, will address the issue that received a favorable report so that the change can be formulated and its treatment can begin with the corresponding sectoral reports. The block where it is located, between Úbeda and Cabra streets, is shared by a school and several businesses.

Now the owners also propose that on the land with an area of 1,214 square meters, with this modification we can obtain a little more use in buildable square meters (approximately two thousand square meters/ceiling).

The Directorate of Municipal Urban Planning decided in 2020 to allow the property of the old cinema of Córdoba to explore other uses after determining by facts that, for social equipment, it did not want it .

The cinema of Córdoba is one of those spaces that has remained rooted because one thing is what the newspapers say should be done and another, different thing is what was done. It was built in 1959 and it maintained its cinematographic use until 1987. In successive urban plans it appeared that the Córdoba City Hall would favor the acquisition of the building, which remains private property.

The real estate report indicates that decades have passed (34 years) during which the Town Hall did not opt for the acquisition of the building and land, generating a loss of resources for the owners of the old Cinema Cordoba, who saw that administrative obligations were not respected and that lucrative initiatives could not be established with the property. In fact, the City Council has opted for much more powerful operations in the area, such as Normal Education, where there is plenty of space for social initiatives.
