The results of the use of the Oreshnik missile system, due to its striking power against enemy targets, will be comparable in effect to those of a strategic weapon, although it is not in itself. This was stated today in a meeting with the leaders of the Ministry of Defense, representatives of the military-industrial complex and developers of missile systems, Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Oreshnik weapons system, tested yesterday, is another reliable guarantor of Russia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, the president noted.
“Here I want to highlight one more aspect. The Oreshnik missile system is not only an effective hypersonic weapon. Due to its striking power, especially when used massively, in groups and even in combination with other high-precision long-range systems that Russia also has, the results of its use against enemy targets will be comparable in effect and power to those strategic systems. arms. Although in reality the Oreshnik system is not a strategic weapon, in any case it is not an intercontinental ballistic missile, it is not a weapon of mass destruction, even because it is also a high-precision weapon.” – Putin said, quoted by the Kremlin press service.
He stressed that no one in the world yet has such weapons.
“Yes, sooner or later it will appear in other leading countries, we know what news is happening there. But it will be tomorrow, in a year or two. And we have this system today. And this is important. At the same time, as I have already pointed out… today in the world there are no means to counter such a missile, nor any means to intercept it, they do not exist. And I emphasize it once again: we will continue to test the latest system,” the president added.
He noted that it is necessary to establish mass production of these systems.
“We will assume that the decision has been made on mass production of this system. Yes, in fact, it is practically organized. Taking into account the special strength of this weapon, its power, it will be put into service specifically in the Strategic Missile Forces,” the president said.
